The Untamed Coyote
In 2024, I migrated to New Mexico for a couple of months. While I was there, I discovered a little art studio in Corrales. When I walked through the door, the artwork of a blue coyote was the first thing I saw. I met artist who shared the story of Charlie. She told me a woman in Wyoming took in a coyote pup, when he was ten days old. She shared how his den had been destroyed and he was all alone. She told me the woman knew Charlie was a coyote and his wild nature needed to be respected. She knew he would be living in a domestic environment, but would still need to run free.
I have a special connection to the coyote and really connected to the story of Charlie. In 2014, the Coyote crossed my path like crazy and I began studying them. Over the years, he would appear on my adventures in different geographically locations. In 2017, I too lost my den and found myself all alone. When I heard how Charlie’s wild nature needed to be respected, I thought about my own need to run free and not be tamed. When we have experienced trauma, it is important to know we can move at the rhytm we need, while having a place a to be nurtured.
